TEAMS
 
EXPLAINED

Our guests are strong and capable people, as evidenced by surviving their journey. However, establishing a new life in an unfamiliar place has many components and challenges. Each guest is ideally surrounded by a team of six or more who share the many responsibilities that support their successful transition. Each person is unique, as are their needs. Together, teams rally to provide or locate the specific goods and services their guest requires. These may include, but are not limited to: tutoring, medical or dental services, mental health care, transportation, legal services, social and recreational activities, English proficiency, and basic education.

As with the host, team members also have the privilege of joining the guest in companionship during this part of his or her journey.

HOST FAMILY

Provides a stable home and reliable access to basic necessities such as regular meals, a safe environment, and a private room.

 

TEAM COORDINATOR

Oversees and organizes logistics and delegates tasks to team members

Is in close communication with host family and guest

HEAD OF FUNDRAISING

Generating financial support for the teams & guests needs

HEALTHCARE CHAIR 

Identifying and coordinating mental and physical healthcare

TRANSPORT ORGANIZER

Arranging drivers for appointments & teaching RTD

INTERPRETER

It is imperative to have at least one interpreter on each team

*This position can be coupled with another role

CULTURAL COMPETENCE 

Assisting in the navigation of cultural and business norms of the US. 

Other Team Tasks May Include:

Finding a GED or job training program

Registering for ESL classes

Coordinating interpreters when necessary

Finding an appropriate social group

Driver's license preparation
